Welcome

I’m Kim, the founder of The Listening Rooms and I am a certified counsellor with a Diploma in Counselling.

I’ve always had a passion for listening and helping people. My first experience of truly listening to others began many years ago when I worked as a beauty therapist. During those years, clients often opened up about their lives, and I found myself holding space and listening to their stories. I was often told, “You should be a counsellor” and that’s where my journey began.

Those experiences stayed with me and eventually led me to study counselling. I have also experienced many ups and downs in my own life including grief and trauma. Counselling played an important role in helping me navigate life’s challenges and find clarity, understanding, and healing.

Now I feel called to give back by supporting others who may be going through difficult times.

The Listening Rooms is a calm, safe space where you are met with empathy, respect, and genuine understanding. You don’t need the right words or know exactly where to start. This is a place to pause, reflect, and be heard.

My work is guided by person-centred counselling, keeping you at the heart of every session. Your story, values, and goals shape our time together, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

Together, we can explore your experiences, untangle difficult emotions, and support you in reconnecting with yourself in a way that feels safe, nurturing, and empowering.

How counselling can help you

Counselling can help you feel more supported, clear-headed, and better equipped to handle life’s challenges, whatever they may look like for you:

  • A safe, confidential space where you can speak openly and feel truly listened to, without fear of judgment.

  • Clarity when things feel messy or overwhelming, helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and next steps.

  • Practical tools and coping strategies to support you through your situation, so you can feel more in control day to day.

“It was my first experience of any type of counselling and Kim put me right at ease. She helped me talk through my anxieties and come up with actionable ways of dealing with them. My shoulders felt a lot lighter after my session. Thank you Kim!”

“Kim is an incredible listener and has a real gift for making you feel truly understood. She has a natural ability to tune into how you’re feeling without judgement, which makes it so much easier to open up. The suggestions she offered were practical, simple to implement, and genuinely made a difference for me. I can’t recommend Kim highly enough.”

- Clare L

“I had the privilege of working with Kim recently and the experience was incredibly positive. Kim created a warm, safe, and supportive environment that made it easy to open up. Kim's approach is empathetic yet practical, and they strike a perfect balance between listening deeply and offering thoughtful guidance.

One of the things I appreciated most was her ability to help me understand patterns and my thoughts and behaviours in a way that felt empowering rather than overwhelming. She offered clear strategies and tools that I could apply in everyday life.

I highly recommend Kim to anyone seeking a counsellor who is compassionate, insightful, and genuinely committed to their clients’ growth.

Working with Kim has made a remarkable difference in my life.”

FAQs

  • Many people come to counselling because something doesn’t feel quite right, or because they want support through a transition, relationship difficulty, or period of overwhelm. You don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable.

  • The sessions last 50 minutes and cost $80. Unfortunately at this stage we do not offer a Medicare rebate.

  • Anything that feels important to you. This may include relationships, motherhood, identity changes, burnout, grief, anxiety, self-worth, or long-standing patterns you’d like to understand and shift. There is no “right” or “wrong” topic.

  • That’s completely okay. You don’t need to have the right words. Counselling is a space where we gently explore things together, at your pace.

  • Sessions are held via a secure video platform, allowing you to attend from the comfort of your own space. All you need is a private environment, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera.

  • Yes. Research shows online counselling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy for many people. It also offers flexibility and accessibility, especially for busy parents or those in different locations.

  • Sessions typically run for 50 minutes. Some people attend weekly, others fortnightly or as needed. This can be adjusted over time depending on what feels supportive for you.

  • That’s more common than you might think. Every counsellor and therapeutic relationship is different. Feeling safe, heard, and understood matters, and it’s okay to try again.
